Eyelid Lift to Rejuvenate Tired, Sagging Eyelids

February 15, 2016 by Nuance Cosmetic Surgery

The skin of our eyelids is extremely fragile and becomes more so with age, which can lead to droopy, wrinkly lids that make us look older than we are. When the droopiness becomes so bad, it can interfere with vision and is known as ptosis. Still others are unhappy that their eyelids lack a crease and wish to have them created.

An eyelid lift, also called a blepharoplasty, fixes these issues in one quick surgical procedure.

How the Procedure is Done

An eyelid lift is done while the patient is under local or general anesthesia, meaning the patient is asleep during surgery. During the consultation, you may inquire which type of anesthesia will be used.

The surgeon makes a small incision. Carefully, excess skin and possibly fat may be removed. Treatment time may vary. The patient then goes to a recovery room to wake up and get oriented before being taken home by a loved one.

Recuperating from an Eyelid Lift

Most people will experience very little discomfort during recuperation. Patients will need to avoid touching or rubbing their eyes during healing and, of course, refrain from wearing makeup. Cool gel packs can be used to soothe away discomfort or itching.

After a few days, most people can return to work and take up their normal routines. A follow-up appointment is usually scheduled a week or so after surgery, to make sure healing is going as it should. Of course, patients who feel feverish or otherwise unwell should call in immediately.

Potential Complications

Most patients will have a bit of swelling and bruising after surgery. This is completely normally and usually resolves on its own within a week to ten days.

Many of these side effects can be avoided by following the surgeon’s post-operative instructions closely, but no surgery is completely without risk.

Schedule Your Consultation

If your eyelids are dropping or you want to have eyelid creases, blepharoplasty is an excellent option for meeting your goals. In cases where droopy lids are obscuring vision, the procedure may not be optional.

If you’d like to have your specific case evaluated and learn about your options, contact Nuance Cosmetic Surgery today to schedule a personal consultation.

Our practice offers many services including lip augmentation, Brazilian butt lift, male breast reduction, and more. We look forward to helping you with your cosmetic goals.
