How is it Done?
The procedure is performed by removing fat from other parts of the body via liposuction. The areas around the buttocks are usually targeted in the liposuction procedure to help enhance the look of the buttocks. Most frequently, fat is removed from the stomach, hips, thighs, and lower back area. The fat is processed and purified. It is then injected into the buttocks to reshape them. Hundreds of tiny fat injections are performed to distribute the fat evenly in the area to be augmented. The combination of liposuction and buttock augmentation produces a much more attractive, sensual body shape.
What is the Recovery Like?
The Brazilian butt lift procedure is performed under general anesthesia, but patients generally go home the same day. They should arrange for a ride home and plan on several days of rest after the procedure. Recovery from the liposuction usually requires wearing compression garments over the treated areas for at least two weeks after the procedure. There will be considerable bruising and swelling at the sites of the liposuction procedure. The buttocks will also be swollen and bruised, and a support garment will have to be worn over the buttocks for up to eight weeks. The patient is not allowed to sit on the buttocks for three weeks. Most patients can return to non-manual work after a week. After four weeks, patients can return to their normal activities. Vigorous exercise may be resumed after six to eight weeks.
Is it Permanent?
In most cases, the procedure is permanent. Occasionally, the fat grafts do not “take” well and a second procedure may need to be performed to achieve the desired result.
