Nose Reshaping with a Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty Folsom CA Citrus Heights CA

A nose job, or rhinoplasty, is a common surgery performed on the nose in order to improve its function or modify its shape. Rhinoplasty can be performed for medical purposes, such as correcting breathing issues associated with the nose or correcting deformities resulting from birth defects or trauma. However, this procedure is most commonly performed for cosmetic or aesthetic reasons that modify the shape of the nose and improve its overall appearance.

Deciding to Get Rhinoplasty

If you’re considering a rhinoplasty procedure, it is a good idea to start with a surgical consultation with our medical team. The basic structures of your nose will be evaluated in addition to your other facial features, and a surgical plan will be created based on your individual needs and concerns. Your overall health and candidacy for this procedure will be determined during this time, and any questions you may have will be answered.

While there is no such thing as a perfect nose, rhinoplasty surgery does have the ability to enhance your facial features and highlight your natural, unique beauty.

There is a wide variety of techniques available to successfully reshape or sculpt the nose. Once you and our medical team have fully discussed the look you are trying to achieve, the specifics for the surgery will be planned.

Systematic Process for Rhinoplasty

Usually, rhinoplasty is done on an outpatient basis and you can go home after the procedure. Either local or general anesthesia is used, depending on the procedure and patient preference. If local anesthesia is used, the doctor will sedate you and numb your nose in order to help you relax. With general anesthesia, you’ll be unconscious throughout the surgery. In either case, there’s no pain involved.

During your surgery, small incisions will be made inside your nostrils. In some cases, the surgeon makes tiny cuts along the bottom of the nose. Next, the surgeon will start to reshape the cartilage and inner bone of the nose in order to create a more pleasant appearance that is symmetrical to your face.

Recovery for Rhinoplasty

Following a rhinoplasty procedure, patients typically wear a splint on their nose during the first week. Some bruising and swelling around your eyes can be expected following surgery, which usually starts to improve somewhere around day three or four. However, in some cases it can last as long as a few weeks.

It’s normal for your nose to experience some swelling following surgery that may or may not be noticed by others. This swelling will eventually subside over the course of the following six months or less. The ultimate shape of your new nose will be obvious once you’ve completely healed.

It is often suggested to avoid any strenuous exercise or activities for at least four to six weeks following your procedure. Afterwards, you can return to your normal activities and fully enjoy the appearance of your new nose.
