The Eyelid Lift Surgery Procedure
Blepharoplasty for the upper eyelid is often performed under local anesthesia. However, when only the lower eyelid or both eyelids are being treated, you may be given local anesthesia together with intravenous sedation. If you prefer general anesthesia, your surgeon can also administer it to you.
Usually, a typical blepharoplasty procedure takes between one to two hours depending on the extent of the procedure. When the upper eyelid is being treated, the surgeon makes an incision on the crease of the eyelid, and the resulting scar will be hidden in the natural folds of the eye. The doctor then uses this incision to remove excess fat, skin, and loose muscle.
If you are treating the lower eyelid, the surgeon will make an incision in the inner part of the eyelid and remove or reposition the fat in the eyelid. This incision is made in the inner part of the eyelid, making it nearly invisible. After the removal of the excess skin and fat is completed, the surgeon will place tiny stitches that will be removed in 3-6 days.
