Contact us at our Folsom office for a consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Sumida, who will create a customized surgical plan for you based on your cosmetic goals in order to achieve a natural look.

What is Asian Eyelid Surgery?

Approximately half of Asians are born with a single eyelid structure, meaning they do not have the upper eyelid crease present in Caucasian eyes. A blepharoplasty, or Asian eyelid surgery, corrects this by producing a double crease in the eye while also maintaining the integrity of its Asian characteristics.

An immensely popular procedure in Asia and one of the most frequently requested among Asians living in America, Asian eyelid surgery is performed for a variety of reasons:

Done under local anesthesia, Asian eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure unless combined with other procedures. It is typically minimally invasive, with incisions made in the upper eyelid in order to reduce scarring. Excess fat is then removed from the eyelid, and the skin fold is repositioned into the double eyelid structure.

What is Recovery Like?

Some bruising and swelling are typical after Asian Eyelid surgery. This goes away after 7-10 days. Contact lenses can be worn after 3 days, and makeup can be carefully applied to the healing eye areas after 5 days. Most patients return to normal daily activities after 10-14 days.

You will be advised during your consultation on the full risks and possible side effects of receiving this surgery, and you will be advised on proper aftercare of your incision sites post-surgery in order to reduce the risk of infection and adverse effects.

During healing, it may take the new eyelid a month or two to achieve optimum shape and height, but the results are long-term. As incisions are typically made in the upper eyelid region, there is virtually no visible scarring.

Doctor Sumida will determine with you during your initial consultation whether this surgery is an appropriate procedure for you and your overall expectations.

At Nuance Cosmetic Surgery, we want you to look confident, feel confident, and be confident. Contact us today to schedule an appointment and have your questions about Asian eyelid surgery answered.
